About the unique GLOWdatabase
GLOWServices Added to the National Data Base: GLOW (www.LearnGerman.us), the free interactive data base of German programs, translators/tutors, and job seekers, now includes an extensive web site and a three or four times a year e-mail “briefing” for all persons involved in teaching German in any format and at all kinds of institutions. As a source of information for ALL students and teachers of German, it reaches beyond the AATG. Its features link the AATG’s valuable website and services, including GROW (German Resources on the Web), as well as useful sites of other institutions and organizations, such as the Goethe Institute and the German Information Service. GLOWservices is a also means for the AATG to advertise its services to non-AATG members. The data base continues to grow exponentially and now contains information for about 7,500 entries, the majority of German programs in the US. GLOW enables people of all ages to locate an appropriate nearby program with a brief Internet search, but it is also a handy reference tool for teachers to communicate with each other and for chapter leaders to contact non-members. The new GLOWservices web site delivers practical help to time-strapped German teachers. It offers practical advice to tutors/translators, school administrators looking for a new German teacher, and job seekers. The lively GLOW PowerPoint presentation can be downloaded by teachers to create a personalized presentation to advertise German as a subject and their own programs. GLOW also links to advocacy materials of the AATG and the Goethe Institute. Job seekers can register to increase their visibility to schools, as a supplement to registering at the AATG National Job Registry (see List-Serv at www.aatg.org). The profession needs qualified applicants when current teachers retire. You can help by making sure that your own program is listed accurately and is up-to-date.
